Shane has a legal
practice focused principally in business law. Shane
provides a wide-range of business formation and
development legal advice from selecting and securing
your business names and logos (trademark
law)
through the many stages of your business
development, including managing employees
(employment
law) and negotiating agreements
(contract
law). Shane has assisted numerous clients
with
real
estate sales and acquisitions, and a
variety of
civil litigation. He also practices in
the areas of
administrative
law,
arbitration,
collections,
mediation, and
school
law. Shane holds
a “BV” rating in the Martindale-Hubbell Law
Directory, and was selected in September 2007 for
inclusion in the 25th anniversary edition of The
Best Lawyers in America® in the specialty of
Intellectual Property Law.
Shane first joined the firm as an intern during law
school in 1991. Upon graduating from the University
of Montana Law School in 1993 (J.D. with Honors) and
passing the bar exam for the State Bar of Montana,
Shane became an associate of the firm in September
1993. He is now a shareholder in the firm (since
January 2001), and served on the firm’s Executive
Committee (2004 - 2007).
Shane prides himself on his involvement with bar
activities. He served as the President of the local
Missoula New Lawyers Association, Chair of the State
Bar New Lawyers Section, President of the Western
Montana Bar Association, and currently serves as a
Trustee of the State Bar of Montana. Shane also
chairs the Professionalism Committee of the State
Bar; the committee charged with the duty of
educating attorneys about the Montana Rules of
Professional Conduct and professionalism in general.
Shane just finished a four year term as Chair of the
WMBA Pro Bono Program, and was instrumental in the
organization of that Program.
In addition to bar activities, Shane has worked or
continues to work in a variety of community and
civic organizations, including the United Way of
Missoula County where he has served an in-house
campaign executive and as a loaned executive. He
serves from time-to-time as Acting Justice of the
Peace (2001-Present) for Department II, Missoula
County. One of Shane’s sincere joys was serving as
the Chair of The Chamber's Leadership Missoula
program (1998-99; LM16).
Shane was raised on his parents farm/ranch north of
the small eastern Montana community of Bainville,
Montana. He and his three brothers, as well as his
10 aunts and uncles, all graduated from Bainville
High School. Shane later moved on to attend the
University of Montana and graduated in 1990 with a
Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with High
Honors.
Shane enjoys the outdoors of western Montana, and
can often be found hiking and mountain biking in the
hills and mountains surrounding Missoula. He is also
an avid weightlifter and general fitness buff.
