Molly R. Shepherd is "Of
Counsel" to the firm. She was born in California and
received a B.A. in History from Swarthmore College
in 1964 and a M.A. in American History from Smith
College in 1970. She started law school in
Massachusetts, transferring to the University of
Montana School of Law when she moved to Missoula in
1975.
After graduating from law school, Molly joined the
firm as an associate in 1979. Her practice evolved
from insurance defense to health care and school law
and litigation. She has an "AV" rating from the
Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory.
Molly served as President of the State Bar of
Montana in 2000-01 and as co-President of the
Montana Justice Foundation from 2002-05. She is a
currently a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation,
and a member of the Montana Supreme Court Equal
Justice Task Force, the State Bar’s Access to
Justice Committee, and the University of Montana
School of Law's Board of Visitors. She has served as
Chair of the State Bar's committee on Lawyer
Discipline and its Law School Relations Committee.
In 2004, Molly received the William J. Jameson
Award. The award is the Montana Bar's highest honor,
given for distinguished legal service exemplifying
the essence of professionalism. She also received
the University of Montana School of Law's
Distinguished Alumna Award in 2003 and the Western
Montana Bar Association's Outstanding Attorney Award
in 1998.
Molly retired from the active practice of law in
2003. She is pleased to continue her association
with Worden Thane in an Of Counsel capacity. She now
spends most of her time on the North Fork of the
Flathead River, where she is Vice-President of the
North Fork Landowners' Association and Chair of its
Fire Mitigation Committee. She enjoys weaving,
collecting textiles and contemporary art, traveling,
reading, cooking and gardening.
